Windsurf. Barbados is known in the world for windsurfing, especially on the south coast, between the months of November/December and June, the best months for wind and waves. The most popular spots are Silver Sands (wave windsurfing) and Oistins (slalom). It's possible to rent the equipment straight on the beach by the Mistral Club or by Brian Talma's school, by the Silver Rock Hotel.

Surf. Also surfing is very popular, in every period of the year. Famous spots are Soup Bowl (Bathsheba) on the east coast, South Point and Brandons on the south coast, Maycocks and Duppies on the west coast; there are other surf breacks around the island as well.

KITESURFING - Flying kites has long been a favourite leisure activity in Barbados but harnessing it to a surboard adds another dimension! Kitsurfing is the name, going higher is the game! It's a challenging discipline in a sport where athletes are always pushing themselves to the limit. Most people don't believe it but the mechanics are simple: two lines link the surfboard with the kite, you pull left to go left, you pull right to go right. If it sounds easy, try it! Kitesurfing combines a lot of skills. It's a blend of windsurfing, wakeboarding, surfing and perhaps even a bit of parasailing. Barbados is great for kitesurfing and Silver Sands/Silver Rock area is almost perfect with its large beach and flat inside section with a reef break 150 meters offshore. Club Mistral at Silver Sands is one of the first kitesurfing schools in the world and offers a variety of courses for beginners or advanced surfers.

Diving. Barbados was formed entirely out of coral and its beauty beneath the sea offers many diving activity, like in the Barbados Marine Reserve (4 square km of protected area) on the west coast. You can also admire many wrecks lying on the bottom of the sea. There are a lot of diving centres located in different places on the island which organize PADI courses, lessons and immersions both for beginners and expert divers.

Other water sports. On the south and west coast it's possible to practice water-skiing, catamaran sailing, jet-skiing, parasailing, body surfing.

Cricket. Cricket is as popular in Barbados as football is in Italy. This little island has the highest number of cricket champions, related to the number of inhabitants; of all the champions, we like to remember the myth Garfield Sobers, nominated "Sir" in 1975 during a visit of The Queen Elisabeth. The international championship starts in January and ends in April.

Golf. For golf lovers (both beginners and experts), Barbados offers many chances to play. Very exclusive "greens" are the Royal Westmoreland, 18 holes, located north of Holetown and the Sandy Lane, 18 holes, located in the namesake hotel near Holetown. It's possible to rent the equipment and take lessons. On the South Coast there is the Rockley Resort Golf Club, 9 holes.

Tennis and Squash. You can find clay and hard tennis courts; many of them are enlightened for nocturnal matches. The public courts are in Garrison, near Bridgetown, and in the Folkstone Park. In Barbados you can also play squash. At the Barbados Squash Club of Hastings there are three courts, two of which are air-conditioned; at the Rockley Club there are two courts, both air-conditioned.

Walking and horse-back riding. To walk to the discovery of the island, the appointment is at the Barbados National Trust every Sunday at 6:00 am and 15:00 pm; tours are usually not longer than 8 km. The tour guide creates different groups relating on people's speed, slow, medium, fast, and give you information about history, culture and geography. The excursions are free. For horse-back riding the Caribbean International Riding Centre (Auburn) and the Beau Geste Farm (near Gun Hill) organize beautiful tours inland for both beginners and expert riders, from 1 and 1/2 hour to 4 hours. It's also possible to experience the feeling of a beach gallop: the Wilcox Riding Stables organize tours on the beautiful Long Beach.
